Won a bronze medal for Romania at the senior WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Houston, Texas, United States of America

Won a gold medal for Romania at the Francophone Games in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Turned Pro

Lucian turned pro with INTERBOX, a promoter in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

1st fight in Romania

Successfully defended his regional NABA  North American Boxing Association) Super Middleweight Title with a KO victory vs. Donny McCrary (USA).

The event took place in Lucian’s hometown of Galati, Romania. It would be his only fight in his hometown during his amateur and pro careers.

International Boxing Federation

Lucian Bute becomes IBF (International Boxing Federation) World Champion with a TKO victory over then-current Champion, Alejandro Berrio (Columbia). The match took place at the Bell Center in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

Pursuit of Education

After 4 years of studying, Lucian Bute obtains a Bachelor of Physical Education Science from the “Dunarea de jos” University in Galati, Romania.

IBF World Title defence

After a controversial World Title defence in 2008 vs Librado Andrade, Lucian Bute wins a rematch with a spectacular KO! The fight took place at the Pepsi Coliseum in Québec City, Québec, Canada.

Master of Sports Management

After 2 years of study, Lucian Bute obtains a Master of Sports Management from “Dunarea de jos” University in Galati, Romania.

Defending His Title in Romania

Lucian Bute returns to fight in Romania, his 8th World Title defence vs mandatory challenger Jean-Paul Mendy (France). Lucian stops his challenger with a KO and wraps up his dream to fight in his home country and defend his World Title. The event took place in Bucharest, Romania.

Unsuccessful 10th IBF Title Defence

Lucian Bute travels to United Kingdom after 9 consecutive World Title Defences. Challenger, Englishman Carl Froch, surprises Lucian with a win by TKO. This ends his 5 year reign as IBF World Champion. The fight took place in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

Canadian Boxing History

Lucian Bute moves up in weight class to fight fellow Montréaler, Jean Pascal. In front of a record crowd of 22,000 people at the Bell Center, Pascal wins a unanimous decision over 12 closely contested rounds. The event was billed the highest grossing fight in Canadian boxing history.

IBF World Championship Challenge

Lucian Bute challenges new IBF World Champion, James DeGale. Despite a tremendous effort, Lucian loses his challenge. The event was the 1st ever boxing match to take place at the new Videotron Center in Québec City, Québec, Canada.

WBC World Championship Title Eliminator

In an effort to regain a World Champion Title, Lucian Bute travels to Washington DC, USA, to challenge WBC ( World Boxing Council) World Champion, Badou Jack. After 12 rounds of a highly disputed contest, the judges declare the fight a draw.

WBC Title Eliminator Fight

Lucian Bute challenges fellow Québec fighter Eleider Alvarez in an elimination fight to become mandatory challenger to the light-heavyweight WBC World Title. Despite a good start, Lucian Bute loses by KO. The event took place at the Videotron Centre, Québec City, Québec, Canada.

After a long layoff and deep thinking, Lucian Bute announces his retirement from the world of professional  boxing.
